Red Brick Walkways

We follow the red brick walkway through a stunning landscape that is painted with color. Choosing to use red brick for the walkway made the green grass look greener and the flowers more vibrant. Using red brick for landscape installation in the Emerald City is nothing short of wise.

Bluestone Flagstone Walkways

Pennsylvania bluestone is a type of flagstone that is ideal for a walkway set in sand, small stone, bark, or cement. They also look great with grass, moss, or ground-cover growing amongst the stones. Its name comes from the area where it is mined, but bluestone flagstone walkways "belong" in our Seattle area.

Iron Mountain Slate Walkways

Walkway installed using iron-mountain slate, by Environmental Construction Inc. in Kirkland WA

Walkways come in all sorts of colors. This walkway was installed using iron mountain slate, a creative way to add a little color to a landscape while keeping it looking natural. Iron mountain slate has a high iron content which causes the "rusty" brown color. Don't worry, it does not rub off on your feet.

Fieldstone Walkways

Yet another type of flagstone is called fieldstone. This stone walkway is typically jagged on the surface -- a nice addition to a natural or rustic landscape design.

Cut Stone Walkways

When a slightly rustic but solid walkway is desired, there is the cut stone walkway. The cut marks create an interesting appearance. Any stone can be cut and fit together into a slab or walkway, including the various types of flagstone, granite, slate, limestone...even marble.

Cobblestone Walkways

They take us back to the days when the first roads and walkways were paved with cobblestone. When set in sand, cobblestone walkways are permeable and eco-friendly. They are also a cute addition to a landscape when surrounded by native plantings or winding their way through a cottage garden.
